Burstall Pass

Apparently, people go up to Burstall Pass without skis.
It was such a strange sight to see grass, bushes, and lakes where I normally see snow, snow, and snow. The summer hiking trail up to Burstall Pass goes along some terrain which, in the winter, I would generally not follow due to avalanche risk. However, it's a great trail which gives nice views of the valley with a sudden finish at the top as you break out of the trees onto the pass.

Many varieties of wildflowers were in bloom

We saw one group doing a high version of the Birdwood traverse, while a couple of groups seemed to be heading back from the Banff side. Lots of traffic on this day!

Snow Peak, Mount Birdwood (3097m), and Mount Burstall (2760m)

As usual, I longer for skis on the hike down, but the gentle slopes made for easy travel and we ended the day with a fantastic dinner at Frank and Tiiu's.
