Lake O'Hara

Happy Birthday Akemi!

Skiing up to Lake O'Hara lodge, where we celebrate Akemi's birthday, has become an annual tradition. Most years, we ski up with Frank and Tiiu. However, we had already done this trip with them earlier in the season, so we took this opportunity to bring some friends who had never had the chance to partake in this most civilized of backcountry lodges.

A splash of colour amongst the green and white

Light snow and mild temperatures made for a very comfortable ski up the old fire road. We made good time and arrived at the lodge about 3 hours after starting off from the parking lot.

The only type of cake I could hide in my tripod case

The lodge serves lunch on Saturdays and Sundays from 12pm to 2pm. Fantastic soup (apricot and lentil on this day), spinach salad, fresh bread, and dessert make for a wonderful respite from breaking trail through fresh snow.

Coziness

They also have a wonderful wood fireplace that warms the entire lodge. We were in no rush to leave.

A very important sign

The ski down is a lot of fun and definitely puts some wind in your hair. It took about 100 minutes to get back down as the distance markers just flew by.

Thanks to everyone who could come, and we hope to see you out again soon!
