Gypsum Quarry

Taking the route less traveled can often be rewarding.

At the very least, taking the route less traveled allows one to understand why it is less traveled. This was the case with Gypsum Quarry.

I did not want to park at Peninsula, which is where the summer route starts. Instead, I parked on the side of the road just across from the ridge and bushwhacked through deadfall and crusty snow.

Deliciously crusty

We eventually managed to reach the road leading from Peninsula, and I'm not sure if we really got there any faster. It was certainly a lot more work.

The upper slopes on the ridge had much better snow, and we encountered 2 other groups. There are no more photos as we worked really hard for the turns we got.

Next time, I will try parking at Peninsula and seeing how that goes.
