Burstall Pass

Avalanche conditions have been very stable recently (mainly due to no new snow in two weeks), so I decided to bring some people without any avalanche training up to Burstall Pass.

We had a mixed group of skiers, snowshoers, and dogs, so the pace was relaxed. I hadn't been to Burstall Pass this season, so it was nice to get reacquainted.

At the pass

Conditions were surprisingly good to about 50m below the pass, at which point the wind had blown away a lot of the snow and exposed the rocks underneath.

Skiing down to the gully

The ski-out gully was probably in the best shape I've ever seen it in. Many of the sharp drop-offs were smoothed out by the snow, making for a fun and relatively easy ski back down.

Heading home

We didn't get to see much sun this day, but temperatures were very mild and the setting was beautiful as usual.
