The answer to the second question is Rummel Lake, which I thought was exclusively a snowshoe trail.
Laureen and her mom Anne wanted to head out for an easy day of snowshoeing, and I decided to join them on my long snowshoes.
The first part of the trail was a steady climb, cutting through a cutblock that made for a bit of nice glade skiing on the way back down. After re-entering the dense forest, it was more climbing with several dips before levelling out onto Rummel Lake.

Beyond the lake are some very nice looking slopes which would make for good skiing with a bit more snow. We saw a group of 3 (2 snowboarders, 1 skier) heading up, but if this area was anything like Chester Lake (2 valleys further south), the higher one went, the worse the conditions would be.

I will definitely come back when there is a bit more snow and see if I can make it to the pass.
