While skiing the Great Divide trail two weeks before, I had quickly checked the conditions of the Lake O'Hara fire road, and while it hadn't seen much traffic, the base seemed pretty solid so I figured it was worth a try.
Heading up the Lake O'Hara fire road |
The Lake O'Hara lodge doesn't open until January, so I didn't expect too many people to be on the trail. We encountered 2 groups on the way in, both out for the day. On the way out, we crossed paths with a group of 4 heading to the Elizabeth Parker hut.
A winter guardian of the fire road |
Frank and Tiiu came up to the 7km mark then decided to head back. Akemi and I skied up to the Le Relais shelter (which was locked), where we had a quick lunch then prepared to ski back down.

Afterwards, Frank and Tiiu treated me to a belated birthday dinner at the Lake Louise hostel. Thanks for the great day!
