The weather had prevented us from attempting Mount Cory on two previous occasions, but we finally managed to both start and finish on this fine day.
The start of the trail was quite bushy, with lots of deadfall blocking the faint trail. We finally found a way around the initial cliff face, at which point the trail was much more obvious.
It took us about 2 hours to get to the "small plateau" described in the Kane book, from which the rest of the way looks somewhat tricky and unlikely.

Interesting rock formations |
There was a lot of scree and side slopes, but we eventually made it to both the first and second summits.

Dave on the first summit |
We looked for a way to connect to the Cory Pass trail via the col between the two summits, but the way down wasn't entirely apparent and the terrain was quite steep, so we decided to confront the devil we knew and headed back the same way we came up.

Second summit, with Mount Louis in the background |
On the way down, we found the trail was much more obvious and managed to avoid all of the tricky sections. There was even a short scree surf that broke the tedium.
