Hitting three of the four highest peaks in the Tahoe Basin in one loop!
This is a great hike for people who like checking things off a list, as Freel Peak, Jobs Sister, and Jobs Peak are three of the four highest peaks in the Tahoe Basin (the third highest peak, Mount Rose, is way off towards Reno).
It was quite chilly as we left the house (it's been falling below freezing overnight), but made for perfect hiking weather, especially on some of the open slopes that had little shade or shelter.
The road to the trailhead was a bit rutted and rocky in places, but the Golf did well in what will hopefully be the last time it is asked to perform off road duties (more on that to come).

I find it fascinating that such a huge lake could be hanging over the desert of the Carson Valley. |
On good winters, it is possible to ski off Jobs Peak for 6000 feet down to the Washoe Valley. This would surpass the 4000 foot descent off Mount Field in Yoho National Park. Hopefully we have a good winter this year.
