We saw one other person the entire day!
My favourite place for finding solitude is the Anza-Borrego desert. The trails are not so well traveled that it's impossible to get lost, and you have to rely a bit on your instincts to figure out where to go.
Even the drive to the trailhead was a bit of an unknown, as there wasn't much signage to help us out. Eventually, we found ourselves at something that resembled a dead end in the road, and that is where we started walking.

There were lots of opportunities for rock hopping |
Fortunately, being the "high desert", it wasn't too hot. There certainly wasn't any shade to hide under though.

I find it amazing that things can actually survive in such places |

Looking east toward the Great Salton Sea |
|
Great texture for scrambling |

Relaxing after lunch |
|
One of the few trees in the area, albeit not doing so well |
|
This was more the norm in terms of vegetation |
We eventually found ourselves in a gully that started to lose elevation, and in the distance we could see a highway, so that seemed as good of a place as any to turn around and head back to the car.

Contemplating life |
With the scenery everywhere looking the same, I did peek at my gps a few times to make sure that we were headed in the right direction.
