Red Rock Canyon

A local hike with the team.
Not Las Vegas, but rather a local hike to Orange County, the rock (from a distance) looks quite similar to the sandstone from Red Rock Canyon National Park. On closer inspection, it is far more friable and loose ... not conducive to holding anchors of any sort.

With easy access, good tree cover, and a well worn trail, this area suited our group well for this hot day. Plus, it didn't take too long from the parking lot before we couldn't see the suburban nature of our surroundings.

The high point of the hike
At the end of the trail, we were greeted by several vultures, perhaps thinking that some of our group might not make it back out.

A little different from the usual Orange County hike
There is a literal spider web of trails in this area, many of them accessible by mountain bike, which seemed like the transportation of choice for most users of the trail.

Need an ID of this flower
In the end, we disappointed the vultures and everyone made it out alive, although a couple of our hikers did need to be carried out.
