Heart Mountain

Spring in the Rockies always brings a surprising amount of rain, but we finally had a day dry enough to go for a hike.

Teresa had never done the Heart Mountain horseshoe before, so that was our plan for today.

We were the second car in the parking lot, and ran into the couple in front of us at the first summit. Along the way, the two trickier parts of the route were both dry and snow-free.

The first summit (which I guess is the summit of Heart Mountain)
As the day went on, many groups passed us. We took our time, nursing some residual effects from the previous week's race.

High point of the ridge, which is the summit of Grant MacEwan Peak
The descent from the final summit was not as loose as I remembered, and the muddy root-filled trail through the trees not too wet. The final 3k back to the car was relatively quick and we saw many families on their way to walk along Heart Creek.
