A great climb on interesting rock.
Aftonroe is a 9 pitch 5.7 sport route on Mount Cory. A fairly new route, we've been spending more time climbing in Banff recently after having spent most of our time in Kananaskis Country in previous years.

First bolt |
This was the first time visiting Mount Cory, and the area is quite extensive. The approach is pretty reasonable for the first half, but the upper part is a bit scrambly and loose.
|
Dramatic clouds on Rundle Mountain |
The rock itself is very interesting ... almost like frozen waves. The texture on the first pitch was a bit polished, but the rest of the climb was sharp and friction-y.
|
The top |
The route was a rap-off, but was easier than Rundlehorn due to being more vertical (and having fewer pitches). Unfortunately, we released one bowling ball-sized block, which tumbled down and then lodged itself into a wedge. Still a bit loose, things will hopefully clean up with more traffic.

A sea of rock |
Definitely a route worth doing.
