Fairview Loop

We've never skied the trackset trails around Lake Louise as they're never ready early in the season, but Frank and Tiiu took us for the first time.

The trails around Lake Louise are generally quite gentle but scenic. We started at the train station down in Lake Louise village, then made our way up to Moraine Lake Road via Tramline. We followed this trail for a bit before turning onto the Fairview trail.

Sunny, warm day in the tracks
There was some creative tracksetting along this trail, winding through trees and splitting off when it didn't seem necessary. I suppose even the tracksetters need to have a bit of fun sometimes.

The temperature was warm and the sun was strong, resulting in lots of tree bombs going off all around.

Locked and loaded
We saw some tracks going up towards Fairview Mountain, but couldn't see any people up on the pass. It seemed like a non-ideal time to be up on that face or heading towards Surprise Pass.

Fairview Mountain
At the chateau, we had lunch at the cafe. The prices were "mountain inspired", but not horribly so. We then went to look at the melting ice sculptures.

Snowshoers are required to have kazoos
We took the Tramline trail back down, which was much faster and more direct than the Fairview trail. It took us 45 minutes to get back to the car, whereas it had taken about 2h30m to get up to the chateau.

This was a perfect trip for this day. We haven't been on classic skis much the past couple of seasons, and it also allowed me a chance to play around with some new photographic equipment.
