Sundance Lodge

It's good to get back on nordic skis for mellow terrain.

Nothing beats skinning up steep slopes and skiing down fresh powder. But sometimes, it's nice to relax on gentle terrain and look around as you kick and glide.

Sundance Lodge
Sundance Lodge doesn't open until later in the winter, but in the meantime the trail is trackset from the Healy Creek intersection all the way to the lodge. The lodge itself is beautiful and is the type of cabin that was an inspiration for our own home.

Anyone know where I can get some horseshoes?
The ski in from the Healy Creek trailhead, along Sunshine Road, is about 11 km and mostly uphill. It took us about 2h30m to reach the lodge, where we enjoyed the comfortable veranda. On the way back, we passed 2 or 3 groups on their way in, and we arrived back at the trailhead in about 1h45m.

Next time, I'd like to try taking the Healy Creek trail all the way to the Cave and Basin, and maybe check out the Sundance Canyon area as well.
