Burstall Pass in itself is not a short day, so I wasn't sure how long a day this was going to be. Fortunately, the Ramblers are a very experienced and capable bunch, and I knew the day would go smoothly.
Looking back on Burstall Lake |
The weather was a mixed bag, and by the time we got to the pass, it was mostly small hail with a fair bit of wind.
Can't see the summit of Snow Peak |
Fortunately, there were some sheltered spots below rocky outcrops, and we stopped at the highest one for lunch before pressing on.
Pretty nice view for lunch |
Visibility at the summit was limited at best. It wasn't even clear to me that we were on the summit until we got a 5 second break in the clouds.
On the summit ridge |
The temperature up top was somehow warmer than lower down, perhaps due to an inversion. The wind was still whipping around though, so we didn't stay too long before heading back down.

On the hike back down, we all looked towards Robertson Glacier to see if we could find the guy we ran into in the morning who was going to look for some turns. It would be a long bootpack to get to the toe of the glacier!
A nice view of Mount Galatea from across Burstall Lakes |
All in all, a fairly easy scramble, even given the conditions. Too bad about the weather, but perhaps I'll do it again sometime on a clear day.
