Iron Mountain

Another hike in the San Diego area.

There was a constant drizzle as we drove in to the trailhead parking lot for Iron Mountain. Surprisingly, with the weather being what it was and also fairly early (8am), the parking lot was almost full. I had read that this was a popular hike, but did not expect this.

After waiting for about 10 minutes, the rain subsided somewhat and we decided to get on the trail. Overcast days make for good lighting, so I mostly shot flowers.

This was the view for most of the day, with brief periods of better (but not great) visibility.
The trail was busy with hikers and trail runners, kids and families, and plenty of dogs.

Visibility from the summit was poor, but fortunately the rain had turned into a light mist by then, so we spent a bit of time on one of the large rocks having lunch.

After getting back home, I read up a bit on the area and discovered that there was a climbing area very close by! We will have to go and take a look sometime soon before the summer arrives in full force.
