West Wind Pass and Rimwall Summit

I woke up on Sunday morning to find a significant amount of snow topping the peaks around Canmore.

Joanne and I had originally planned to do Big Sister, but after seeing how much snow was on the north face, we changed plans and decided to try Rimwall Summit instead.

Looking at the Rimwall from West Wind Pass

We first went all the way to West Wind Pass, trying not to get blown off the other side, and then skirted our way along the many cliffbands that were in our way until we could find easy spots to clamber up.

Endless fields of bowling ball-sized rubble

As we got higher, there was more snow and ice to deal with. Fortunately, there wasn't enough to stop us at any of the tricky parts.

The Rimwall is very steep, and the scree above it did not look very secure

When we finally got onto the summit ridge, the wind was unrelenting and very cold. Wind chill factor was definitely relevant.

The final slog to the summit

The view south from the summit was quite nice, where we could see as far as Robertson Glacier.

It's difficult to take photos when your hands won't stop shaking

All in all, not the most interesting scramble, but definitely something to keep in mind when snow threatens to cancel your plans.
